Nazare, sebuah kota pesisir di Portugal, memiliki ombak terbesar di dunia yang pernah ditaklukkan oleh peselancar dan tercatat di Guinness World Records.
Dari bulan Oktober hingga Maret, banyak peselancar akan mengunjungi kota ini guna menyaksikan dan mencoba menaklukkan ombak raksasa tersebut.
Sementara itu, wisatawan umumnya melihat dahsyatnya ombak darisebuah benteng dengan mercusuar merah di atasnya yang Instagramable.
Dilansir dari situs webvisitportugal.com, ombak-ombak raksasa ini merupakan bentukan Nazare Canyon atau ngarai Nazare, ngarai bawah laut terbesar di Eropa sejauh 170 kilometer (km) dan sedalam 5.000 meter.
Pada bulan Oktober 2020, seorang peselancar asal Jerman, Sebastian Steudtner, berhasil memecahkan rekor Guinness World Records dengan menaklukkan ombak terbesar di dunia di pesisir Praia do Norte, Nazare. Waktu itu, ia berselancar melewati ombak yang berukuran 26,21 meter.
“Rasanya luar biasa. Saya telah meraih banyak hal dalam olahraga ini. Perjalanan saya cukup hebat agar bisa sampai di titik ini dan rekor ini lebih dari sekadar angka,” tutur Steudtner, dikutip dari laman Guiness World Records.
Ia melanjutkan, sehari sebelum menaklukkan ombak tersebut, dirinya didera keraguan.
“Saya belum pernah merasakan energi yang begitu besar dari ombak, saya belum pernah merasa begitu cepat di atas papan selancar,” katanya.
Selain ombak yang besar, Nazare juga terkenal akan gradasi warnanya, dari laut biru, pasir keputihan, hingga atap rumah-rumah warga yang kemerahan.
Ada pula Sitio sebagai tempat menikmati panorama dari ketinggian, Kapel Ermida da Memoria, dan Museum Dr. Joaquim Manso yang berisi informasi seputar tradisi di Nazare.
